Characterizes thymosin β4 (PmTβ4) from the black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon. Cloned the full-length PmTβ4 cDNA; expression was highest in hemocytes (immune cells) and upregulated after bacterial challenge and tissue injury. Recombinant PmTβ4 showed antimicrobial activity and promoted wound closure in shrimp. Demonstrates Tβ4's conserved roles in innate immunity and wound healing across invertebrate crustaceans—extending TB4 biology from vertebrates to economically important aquaculture species.
