Mechanistic study of how adjunctive thymosin β4 treatment modulates PMN (polymorphonuclear neutrophil) effector function during Pseudomonas aeruginosa keratitis. TB4 combined with ciprofloxacin enhanced PMN bactericidal activity (ROS generation, NET formation) while reducing excessive PMN-mediated tissue damage (reduced protease release). This selective enhancement of killing while limiting damage explains TB4's ability to both clear infection faster and reduce corneal scarring compared to antibiotic alone.
