Inspired by natural melanosomes — the cellular structures that transport melanin pigment — researchers built liposomal nanoparticles modified with KPV to carry anti-inflammatory and melanin-generating agents into skin affected by vitiligo. The KPV coating helped the nanoparticles penetrate skin more effectively and activated a signaling pathway that boosts the skin's own melanin production. In mice with hydrogen-peroxide-induced vitiligo, treatment with these biomimetic particles improved skin repigmentation by combining internal melanin synthesis with externally supplied melanin.
