Shows that ZEB2 (zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 2), induced in ischemic cardiomyocytes, stimulates angiogenesis through cardio-secreted thymosin β4. Cardiomyocyte-specific ZEB2 increased TB4 secretion, which acted in a paracrine manner on cardiac endothelial cells to promote angiogenesis and vascular repair post-MI. ZEB2 or TB4 knockdown impaired post-MI revascularization. Identifies a ZEB2-TB4 angiogenic cardioprotective axis activated by ischemic stress—linking transcription factor to peptide effector in cardiac repair.
