Characterizes thymosin β4 (PfTβ4) in the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata, the commercially important marine bivalve used for Chinese pearl culture. PfTβ4 expression was upregulated by bacterial and LPS challenge, promoted wound closure, and accelerated mantle secretion after nucleus implantation. Multiple functions—innate immunity, wound repair, and shell/pearl layer formation—have practical implications for increasing pearl aquaculture yield. Extends TB4's conserved roles in immunity and wound healing to molluscs and demonstrates biotechnological value in the pearl industry.
