In this animal study, MOTS-c attenuated vascular calcification and secondary myocardial remodeling in vitamin D3/nicotine-treated rats through AMPK signaling. MOTS-c reduced calcium deposition in blood vessels and prevented cardiac fibrosis, suggesting it could be a novel therapeutic approach for vascular calcification-related cardiovascular disease.
