Nanoparticles combining the KPV peptide with cyclosporine A were coated for colon-specific delivery to treat severe ulcerative colitis in mice. KPV's natural affinity for the PepT1 transporter helped direct the nanoparticles specifically to inflamed cells, where they released the drug over 36 hours. Treated mice showed improvements comparable to healthy animals in multiple disease markers — and notably, KPV-carrying nanoparticles without cyclosporine also had significant therapeutic effects on their own.
