Tests thymosin β4 for acute lung injury (ALI) induced by infrarenal abdominal aortic ischemia-reperfusion—a complication of major aortic surgery. TB4 (10 mg/kg IV) administered either 1 hour before ischemia or 15 minutes before reperfusion reduced lung oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6), and histological lung injury. Both administration windows were effective. Demonstrates TB4 as a potential perioperative lung-protective agent during aortic surgery—a new surgical application extending TB4 beyond direct wound and cardiac repair contexts.
