This in vitro study found that MOTS-c promotes type I collagen synthesis in human osteoblasts through TGF-beta/SMAD signaling. MOTS-c treatment upregulated COL1A1, COL1A2, and TGF-beta expression while downregulating the inhibitory SMAD7, suggesting a mechanism by which MOTS-c could improve bone quality in osteoporosis.
