Mechanistic study demonstrating thymosin β4 inhibits hepatic stellate cell (HSC) proliferation and induces HSC apoptosis through PI3K/AKT pathway suppression. TB4 reduced phospho-AKT in activated HSCs while increasing apoptotic markers—identifying a cell-elimination mechanism (not just activation inhibition) for TB4's anti-fibrotic activity. This stellate cell apoptosis induction suggests TB4 can reduce the existing activated HSC pool in established fibrosis, complementing its inhibition of new HSC activation and providing a more complete anti-fibrotic mechanism.
