Develops a supercritical CO2 (scCO2) wash method to remove lipids from tissue sections prior to MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), significantly improving detection sensitivity for small peptides. Thymosin β4 was among the peptides showing markedly improved signal after lipid removal. Advances analytical tools for mapping TB4 spatial distribution in tissue at higher sensitivity—relevant for understanding TB4's role in organ-specific disease processes where its spatial distribution in tissue microenvironments is informative.
