In this animal study, MOTS-c treatment (5 mg/kg daily for 12 weeks) significantly protected mice from ovariectomy-induced bone loss via AMPK activation. MOTS-c inhibited receptor activator of NF-kB ligand (RANKL)-induced osteoclast differentiation, suggesting it could be a therapeutic candidate for postmenopausal osteoporosis.
