Examines Selank's ability to protect against memory impairment caused by actinomycin D (a protein synthesis inhibitor) in rats learning a spatial maze. Selank (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.) prevented or compensated for the memory deficit at all stages of learning and consolidation. Demonstrates a neuroprotective memory effect independent of GABAergic mechanisms—broadening the proposed mechanism of Selank's nootropic activity.
