Growth hormone levels naturally decline with age, contributing to muscle loss, increased belly fat, and cognitive decline. A synthetic analog called tesamorelin restores the body's normal pulsing release of growth hormone and selectively reduces visceral (abdominal) fat, artery wall thickness, and triglycerides, while also improving cognitive function in older adults — effects not consistently seen with direct growth hormone supplementation. The review concludes that tesamorelin shows more targeted benefits than broad GH treatment for age-related changes.
