KPV was found to suppress inflammation in human airway cells by physically entering the cell nucleus and blocking a key inflammatory signaling protein (NF-kB) from getting in. A related peptide, gamma-MSH, achieved the same anti-inflammatory outcome but through a different route — activating the MC3R receptor on the surface of airway cells. Both peptides reduced levels of inflammatory chemokines linked to asthma and lung disease, pointing to two distinct but complementary targets for treating airway inflammation.
