Pregnant rats with elevated homocysteine levels, a condition that harms fetal brain development, produced offspring with improved spatial learning and memory when given the peptide Pinealon during pregnancy. The peptide also reduced oxidative stress and cell death in neurons isolated from these offspring. This demonstrates that Pinealon can cross the maternal barrier and provide neuroprotective benefits during early brain development.
