A theoretical and experimental review examining BPC 157 within Robert's cytoprotection and adaptive cytoprotection framework. Addresses whether cytoprotection is uniform across stimuli, endogenous or induced, limited to stomach or GI-wide, and relevant to wound healing. Proposes BPC 157 as the essential endogenous mediator of both cytoprotective and adaptive cytoprotective responses throughout the GI tract and in systemic wound healing. Provides the conceptual foundation for positioning BPC 157 as a universal cytoprotective agent.
