KPV tripeptide was loaded into biodegradable nanoparticles and coated in a colon-targeting polysaccharide gel for oral delivery in a mouse model of colitis. The nanoparticles released KPV directly at the surface of colon cells, and the encapsulated form was effective at a dose 12,000 times lower than free KPV in solution. Treated mice were significantly protected from colitis-related tissue damage and inflammation, demonstrating that nanoparticle encapsulation can dramatically improve KPV's therapeutic potency.
