An in vitro pharmacology study testing multiple hypothalamic neuropeptides on rabbit vaginal wall and vaginal artery smooth muscle. Found that PACAP and VIP relaxed vaginal tissue (pro-arousal), while melanocortin peptides including alpha-MSH had weaker direct peripheral effects. Supports the view that bremelanotide's primary sexual effects are central rather than via direct peripheral vasoactive mechanisms.
