This review examines how the thymus gland, the body's primary organ for T-cell development, declines with age and can be partially restored through various interventions. Thymic hormones including thymosin alpha-1 begin declining as early as age 10, and the organ progressively shrinks under the influence of sex hormones and stress hormones. Research in animals shows that thymic tissue transplantation, hormone treatment, and stem cell approaches can partially regenerate the thymus's cellular architecture and restore T-cell production.
