This study examined how severe burn injury affects kidney aldosterone receptor binding and whether KPV can prevent these changes. In rats with heavy-degree scalds, aldosterone binding capacity in kidney cytosol decreased significantly compared to controls, while mild scalds showed no change. Injection of anti-TNFα antibodies, anti-IL-1β antibodies, alpha-MSH, or KPV peptide prevented this decrease in aldosterone binding capacity, suggesting that pro-inflammatory cytokines mediate the receptor downregulation and that KPV can counteract this effect through its anti-inflammatory properties.
